AUGUST EVENTS AT MIRROR LAKE

AUGUST 7- GEOLOGY HIKE. Meet Naturalist Marty at 10:00 A.M. at the trailhead for the Echo Rock Trail which is located at the top end of the boat landing parking lot.

AUGUST 14- WISCONSIN PINE HISTORY HIKE. MEET AT PARK HEADQUARTERS. 10:00 A.M.

AUGUST 20 – UNIVERSE IN THE PARK. Join the UW Astronomy Department for a tour of the night sky! A chance to look through the UW’s telescopes will follow a slideshow presentation. There is no fee for this event, but a valid park admission sticker is required. Universe in the Park .

AUGUST 21- GEOLOGY /NATURE/EARLY RESORT HISTORY HIKE. MEET AT PARK HEADQUARTERS. 10:00 A.M.

AUGUST 28- KAYAK/CANOE TOUR OF MIRROR LAKE. Meet Naturalist Marty at the Boat Landing at 10am.  Rentals are available at the concession

TIMBER WOLF ALLIANCE.  Join us at the amphitheater at 7pm to learn about the timber wolves in the Great Lakes Region.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND

SEPTEMBER 4 – SOARING EAGLES REHABILITATION CENTER. Join us at the amphitheater for our evening program with Raptor Rehabilitator Linda Bethke who will be joining us to talk about the birds in her life.

SEPTEMBER 5- GEOLOGY OF MIRROR LAKE – Program and Night Hike. PROGRAM BEGINS AT 7:30 P.M. AT THE AMPHITHEATER. FOLLOWING THE PROGRAM (APPROXIMATELY 8:30 P.M.) NIGHT HIKE LEAVES FROM AMPHITHEATER, NIGHT HIKE WILL LAST ABOUT AN HOUR.

CANDLELIGHT HIKES

Saturday October 23 - The Friends of Mirror Lake and Mirror Lake State Park will be hosting our annual Halloween Mystery Candlelight Hike and Site Decoration Contest.

Torches will be lit along our 2 easy 1-mile loops from 6-8pm.  Meet us down at the Beach Picnic Area where the Friends will have a couple of bonfires roaring and brats, drinks and goodies for sale.  Once again our Rangers are going to need some extra help figuring out our mystery animal.  So kids, put on your thinking caps before you come and help us find clues to our woodland friend.

The Friends are also sponsoring our 2nd Annual Halloween Site Decorating Contest. Judging will be Saturday night followed by the Awards and Prize Presentation at 7pm at the Beach Picnic Area.  Registration for the contest will be at the office the week of the contest.

Saturday January 8, 2011 and Saturday February 5, 2011 from 6-8pm- The Friends of Mirror Lake and Mirror Lake State Park will be hosting our Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe Event.  Please Note – The January date is 1 week later due to the New Year Holiday. We will have two trails lit by torches.  One trail is an easy 0.8 mile trail that will be available for everyone and the other is an easy 1 mile trail for classical skiing.  The Friends will have a couple of roaring bonfires to stay warm by and also have food, drinks and goodies for sale.  Meet us down at the Beach Picnic area for a wonderful evening!
