We just verified with the office this morning that tomorrow’s Candlelight Hike (Jan 7th, 2012) will go on starting at 6 pm.  Of course, there is not a lot of snow out there so you can leave the skis at home. On the other hand it looks like we’ll have wonderful conditions for an evening hike in January.  Remember, there will be snacks available and bonfires to warm up by as well.

The Friends of Mirror Lake and Mirror Lake State Park will be hosting their annual Halloween Candlelight Hike on Saturday October 22, 2011 from 6 pm to 8 pm.  This fun family event includes an easy 1 mile torch lit hike. Kids of all ages can help find clues along the way to discover this year’s mystery guest. Then gather around the bonfires for delightful evening with family and friends. There will be snacks and beverages offered by the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park for purchase. Mirror lake is a “no-wake” zone here in the Wisconsin Dells area which makes it the perfect family paddling destination.  Canoe, kayak & other boat rentals are available at the Mirror Lake boat landing.   Check out this recent blog post about a day paddle here at Mirror Lake.

Time again for the Candlelight Ski/Snowshoe evening at Mirror Lake State Park this Saturday, Feb 5th. Sponsored by the Friends of Mirror Lake State Park, this event will offer two trails lit by torches. One trail is an easy 0.8 mile trail that will be available for everyone to use. The other trail is an easy 1-mile trail for classical skiing. The Friends will have a couple of roaring bonfires to warm up by, and food, drinks and goodies for sale. Meet at the Beach Picnic area for a wonderful evening! 6-8 p.m!

Summer is just around the corner of course and it’s time again to start reserving your 2011 campsites.  In order to make choosing a site at Mirror Lake State Park a bit easier we’re working on providing photos of the individual campsites.  Today we’ve added photos from the Sandstone Ridge Campground at Mirror Lake State Park.  We’ll be adding even more campsite pictures as we head into the summer season.

This photo was taken this morning (10-11-2010) from the beach at Mirror Lake State Park.  As you can see it’s still pretty colorful but slipping quickly toward brown.    If you want to enjoy fall colors at Mirror Lake we’d suggest that you do it within the next 7 days at most.   Remember too that the Candlelight Mystery Hike is coming up on the 23rd.  Bright the whole family for this fun fall family event!!

Beginning today (Sept 9th, 2010) the Mirror Lake Dam (Located at Timm’s Mill County Park in Lake Delton, WI.) will be undergoing some much needed rehabilitation.  The dam has not seen any major maintenance for over 10 years and sustained some damage in the ’98 flood as well. The work will include reconstruction of the boat landing and the spillway as well as repair the lower dam area popular with local fisherman and more. In the process Mirror lake will be lowered by no more than 5 feet to accommodate the work.  The slight lowering of the water should have little effect on park visitors as the lake  has been high most of the year as it is.  According to the Sauk County Parks office the project should be completed by November 15th.

The Mirror Lake Dam holds back Dell Creek to create Mirror Lake within the state park.

The big question this time of year is, “Will I need reservations at Mirror Lake State Park Too?”.  Well, on most weekends you will need reservations at almost ALL state parks.  With Mirror Lake & Rocky Arbor State Parks so close to Wisconsin Dells they are regularly booked up.  So unless you happen to own a home on the lake.. you will want to make reservations in advance.
